Romanian Orthodox Parish of Saint Macarios the Great

About our Parish

The parish serves the Romanian community living in the north of England and is hosted by the Anglican Community of the Resurrection, Mirfield, which kindly allows us to use one of its churches. This is where we celebrate the Divine Liturgy on Sundays and feast days.

In order to respond to the needs of the Romanian Orthodox believers living in the north of England, on Sunday the 20th July 2004 Father Macarie, received a scholarship and came to Mirfield to conduct research for his doctoral thesis, organised a general meeting to consider forming a parish. Following this meeting, the Romanian Orthodox Metropolitan of Western and Southern Europe was approached in order to obtain permission to form the parish. The wish of the believers was granted and, through the gramata 265 of the 18th August 2004, His Eminence Metropolitan Iosif gave his blessing for the formation of the Romanian Orthodox Parish of St. Macarios the Great, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The feast day of St. Macarios is the 19th January.

Father Macarie served the parish until the Spring of 2005.
